“The road to a friend’s house is never too long.” Danish proverb.
“My neighbor asked if he could use my lawnmower and I told him of course he could, as long as he didn’t take it out of my garden.” Eric Morecambe
Summer is finally here! The new leaves on the trees and the beautiful flowers remind me how fortunate I am to be living in Weston.
For the past few months I’ve been serving as VP of Membership and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed seeing how this wonderful club operates. I am thrilled to now take on the role as President and look forward to the coming year. I want to take this opportunity to give a huge THANK YOU to Tammy Roberts, our outgoing President and now Parliamentarian (among other roles). She has shown me what it is to be a true leader and I’m forever impressed with her talent, dedication and altruism. I also want to thank the board for agreeing to continue (or start out) on this journey with me. What a great group of people I have the pleasure of working with and I know that we’ll make an excellent team. And to the activity chairs, you are the heartbeat of this organization and I appreciate your efforts. And of course, a big thank you to our members, we wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you all so much.
We hope you are able to come to our June 5th social, now called the Year End Bash. If you’re wondering why we’re calling it the “year end” in June, it’s because, as some of you know, our membership year ended May 31st. Please remember to send in your check for $40 and continue to enjoy everything the club has to offer. You can find the membership forms here online http://www.westonctnewcomers.com/membership.html and there’s a copy in this newsletter.
Many activities slow down over the summer months, but September will be here before you know it and we’re still looking for a chairperson(s) for Tennis. This is an extremely easy and fun job and we welcome anyone with the desire to volunteer.
Thanks to everyone that came out for a delicious meal at Portofino’s for the latest Ladies’ Night Out. A special thank you to Jill Paknia for reminding us just how flammable menus are when you accidently hold them over a candle. (we kid, we kid!) J
We now have a Facebook page, so members can find us by searching for WNNC and we’ll be happy to accept your “friend request.”
Thanks again to everyone and I hope to see you all at the Year End Bash and throughout the year.
Have a great summer!
Derry Blatt, President
